BE A VERBAL WITNESS

Jesus and his 12 disciples took a ship on the Sea of Galilee. A great storm frightened the twelve, but Jesus spoke to the storm and it went calm. They then arrived in the area of the Gadarenes. There they encountered a naked demon-possessed man that even chains could not restrain. The demons recognized Jesus’ divine authority, and there was a legion of demons in this man. Jesus cast them out and they were cast into a herd of swine that ran to the sea and drowned. The man was set free. (Luke 8:26-39)

This man entreated Jesus to let him follow with Jesus and the twelve.  Jesus declined the request; He had a greater plan. Jesus told the man (Luke 8:39 NKJV), “Return to your own house, and tell what great things God has done for you.” He went his way and proclaimed throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him.

This same mandate applies to you me today. Mark 16:15 says, “go into all the world and preach (or testify of) the gospel to every creature (person).” Acts 1:8 gives Jesus’ instructions to all of His followers saying, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to me in Jerusalem (your own town) and …to the ends of the earth.” We are not saved just to be a part of a local church. We have a mandate to testify of Jesus throughout our town or city, county, state…at Walmart, Winn-Dixie, or wherever we may be.

A recent poll said 53% of Americans claimed no religious persuasion. Most of these know nothing at all of Jesus. If we don’t tell them about Him, who will? Be a verbal witness, not just a silent one.
