A WITNESS FOR JEHOVAH

The early Church was given a mandate from Jesus in Matthew 28:19-20 “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.” After the resurrection, and before the ascension, Jesus told them in Acts 1:8 “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” These verses have come to be known as the “great commission”. Yet, the early Church did not do what Jesus told them. They stayed for the most part in Jerusalem. When persecution came, then they were scattered throughout the world.

It seems for the most part that most of us like our own “little corner” of the world. We may attend a local church, and may be part of the praise team or prayer team. Yet, we don’t venture much beyond that. Most people have never witnessed to anyone, let alone lead someone to Jesus Christ. Other religions are growing by leaps and bounds. Cults are growing also. Why? Because they believe in their “cause.”

One day when I was having a lady’s bible study in my home, there was a ring of the doorbell. I went to answer it and a well-dressed lady and young man were at the door. Come to find out, they were Jehovah Witnesses. I witnessed to them. The lady told me she was the daughter of an Assembly of God Pastor. She went on to say that no one ever knocked on her door from any Church, only the group that she was now involved with. What she said about that is definitely true. It made me feel very sad. Did she change her position through my witness? Not that I know of, but I gave out the truth.

Years earlier when I was in my early 30’s the doorbell rang. Someone from a non Christian organization was at my door. I flippantly said “I have my own Church, thank you”, and shut the door. Immediately Holy Spirit spoke to me and said: “If they come to your door and you don’t give them the truth, their blood will be on your hands.” It shook me up hearing that. I was determined to give a witness to everyone that I could.

Years after this, I was in Grand Rapids Michigan. I was working with a company in direct home sales. I had gone to a house to show a lady our products. The home was beautiful, and had everything you could imagine in it. The children were dressed in the finest clothes. I shared the products, but did not share any witness about the Lord. About two weeks after this I saw her name in the obituary column. I was aghast. I wondered if she was saved. I found out she was a closet alcoholic and very depressed. She had taken one child to day care then the other to elementary school. She then made a phone call from a pay phone and said there was going to be an accident. She had driven her car into a brick wall and killed herself. I was very distraught. What if I had given her the gospel? What if I had prayed for her? What—what-- what. I knew that I could have done something but didn’t.

What about you? Are you doing what you can for the Kingdom? This is our finest hour my friends. People are full of fear. We have the answer – Jesus Christ. We can bring revival to our land right where we are by sharing Christ wherever we go. I don’t want to stand before God wishing that I had done more. How about you? Let’s be a witness for Jehovah (God almighty) and bring our light to our little corner of the world.
